Food Security
More and more kids in our community are living with hunger. Since the pandemic, more families are struggling to make ends meet. Parents face extremely difficult choices every month such as paying the rent or buying groceries. They often can't manage both. As a community, we need to strengthen every resource we have to keep kids fed, and we're proud to have unified with Food4Kids Guelph to provide more resources and opportunities to local children, youth, and families.
As of July 1st, 2024, Food4Kids Guelph is now part of the Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington’s food security programming, under the new program name of Keep Kids Fed, providing a more coordinated local approach to addressing food security for children and youth. This path forward enables us to better address the growing food insecurity crisis by keeping kids fed in the community.
With two charities bringing their shared knowledge, energies, and experience together, we will be in a stronger position to take advantage of efficiencies to ensure that we can help as many kids as possible during this urgent time of community food insecurity. We are excited to offer wrap-around food support to local children and youth through the two pillars of this program:
- Keep Kids Fed at School, supporting breakfast, snack and lunch programs on school days
- Keep Kids Fed at Home, supporting kids with food outside of school days, during school weekends and school holidays
